Privacy Policy
This policy describes how Minamise handles information. Minamise is a free, ad-free utility that reduces the file size of video, audio, and images on your device.
Summary
- Media is processed on your iPhone or iPad.
- We do not run accounts, ads, or analytics SDKs.
- We do not upload your photos, videos, or audio to our servers.
- Optional tips are handled by Apple (In-App Purchase).
- Diagnostics stay on your device unless you choose to export and send them.
Who we are
Minamise is developed by Adam Newbold. For privacy questions, use the support contact listed in the App Store listing or in the app’s About screen.
Information the app processes
Media you select
When you pick files from Files, Photos, or the Share Extension, Minamise reads those items only to encode, convert, or strip metadata and to write the result you choose (e.g. Photos or Files).
- Processing happens locally using on-device frameworks (including AVFoundation / VideoToolbox) and bundled open-source FFmpegKit components.
- Minamise does not transmit your media to the developer or to a Minamise backend (there is none).
- Temporary working copies may be stored in the app’s sandbox and are cleaned up as part of normal operation.
Photo Library
Minamise may request permission to add items to your Photo Library when you save results there. It uses the system photo picker to select media and does not require full library access for day-to-day use.
Settings and preferences
The app stores simple preferences on device (for example: onboarding seen, appearance, savings totals, saved batch presets) using standard iOS storage such as UserDefaults. This data stays on your device.
Optional tips (In-App Purchase)
If you leave an optional tip:
- Payment is processed by Apple.
- Minamise receives purchase status from StoreKit so it can show a thank-you message.
- Tips do not unlock features, remove limits, or change encoding quality.
- Apple’s privacy policy applies to payment data.
Diagnostics (optional, user-controlled)
Minamise can keep a local diagnostics log (device model, iOS version, app version, encode settings, redacted error messages, and similar technical details).
- Logs are not uploaded automatically.
- Paths and identifiers are redacted where practical.
- Media content is never included in diagnostics.
- You may export or share a diagnostics report if you want help fixing a problem. Only then does that report leave your device, via the channel you choose.
Apple MetricKit may deliver crash or hang summaries to the app for local logging under the same rules.
Share Extension
The Share Extension can hand a selected file to the main app using an App Group container on your device. That handoff stays local to your device.
Information we do not collect
Minamise does not:
- Create user accounts
- Show ads or use advertising identifiers for tracking
- Use third-party analytics or crash-reporting cloud services by default
- Sell personal information
- Track you across other companies’ apps or websites
Third-party software
Minamise includes FFmpegKit under the LGPL. Source availability is described in the app’s About screen. The LGPL applies to that library, not to the proprietary Minamise app code.
Apple provides system frameworks subject to Apple’s terms and privacy practices.
Children
Minamise is a general-audience utility. It is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Data retention
- Media and preferences: controlled by you and by iOS.
- Diagnostics: on device until cleared or the app is deleted.
- Tip records: retained by Apple according to Apple’s policies.
Your choices
- Decline Photo Library add permission.
- Clear diagnostics from About → Diagnostics.
- Avoid exporting diagnostics if you do not want to share technical logs.
- Delete the app to remove local app data.
Changes
We may update this policy when the app changes. The effective date at the top will be revised.
